Candy known as a small confection: small sweet food items usually eaten for pleasure and not as part of a meal, like chocolate bars, mints, and toffee. A piece of confectionery can be a small hard, chewy, or soft piece of food made from sugar and other ingredients or flavorings such as chocolate, nuts, fruit, or peppermint. Candy products, are refered to in the United States as confectionary's. Candy is commonly refered to in the United Kingdom as sweets. The different types of candies ; Soft crystalline, candy is a creamy, smooth and easily chewed. Fondants and fudges are typical soft candies, which come from the basis of chocolate cremes. Toffee, caramels,and peanut brittle, are some of the hard candies, known as noncrystallinecandies. Favorite candies include various forms of chocolate, like nougats and marshmallows. Bars or molded pieces, which may be filled with almond paste or crushed almonds. Cotton candy in the form of spun sugar, chewing gum, popcorn, and licorice are other favorite candies. The oldest types of candies are Licorice and Ginger, from the far east. Marzipan came from Europe.
Candy was an offering to the gods of ancient eygpt. The sweetner in ancient times was honey, until sugar was introduced in Medieval Europe. Candy making began on a large scale when the British developed candy making machinery, in the early 19th century. United States during the mid-19th century, with improvements of machinery and a cheaper process for powdering sugar, the candy making industry grew rapidly in the United States. The very first candy bars were sold in baseball parks as early as 1911 and by 1960 half of the United States candy production was made up of candy bars.

I came across some information on Chocolate that is very interesting on what it contains and what the health benfits are. Found that chocolate contains high levels of catechins which help in the fight against cancer and heart disease. The cocoa bean is also a good source of vitamin B, fiber, protein, and carbohydrates.
What is Chocolate?
Theobroma cacao tree, produces a bean which is used to make chocolate. Chocolate endures a complex and lengthy process from the cacao bean to a smooth, sweet, and textured food product. Ingredients and methods used during the processing, makes up the characteristics and the different tastes of chocolate.
cacao -- The seed of a tropical tree, from which cocoa and chocolate are made.
chocolate -- a powder or paste made from roasted and ground cacao seeds.
